In the opening game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Bruins were defeated 5-1 by the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Boston Bruins had several opportunities to score the game's opening goal and control the outcome of Game 1 of their first-round playoff series, 

but they were unable to beat Carolina Hurricanes goalkeeper Antti Raanta 

Seth Jarvis and Nino Niederreiter scored second-period goals, while Antti Raanta was solid in net.

With No. 1 goalkeeper Frederik Andersen out with an injury, Raanta made 35 stops in his first career postseason start

Raanta fought off Boston's early push to keep Carolina in the game

Until Jarvis and Niederreiter scored two minutes apart in the second period to break the tie.

teuvo Teravainen and Vincent Trocheck scored third-period goals to help Carolina keep control and then extend a lead

Game 2 is Wednesday in Raleigh.
