Last November, Andrew McCarthy and Connor Matherne worked together to push the boundaries of their photographic abilities.

They published their final product online on Weekend, and Reddit is currently buzzing about it.

McCarthy claimed to be an expert in detailed photography, capturing tens of thousands of images to record the moon's topographical details.

Matherne is an expert in colours and likes to take pictures of deep space.

McCarthy captured approximately 200,000 detailed shots of the moon from Arizona in a single evening, and Matherne captured 500 additional images for colour data from Louisiana.

They merged their work by piling the photographs on top of one another to produce a realistic, vibrant image of the moon.

They used picture editing software throughout the course of the following nine months to share ideas and revisions with one another and create the greatest image they could.
