Gilbert Gottfried, a comedian, died at the age of 67. According to a statement on his verified Twitter profile

"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness,"  his family said in a statement posted to his verified Twitter account

According to a statement sent by his publicist and lifelong friend Glenn Schwartz to the Associated Press

 Gottfried died of recurrent ventricular tachycardia caused by myotonic dystrophy type II, a cardiac disease

Gottfried, who had spent the previous few years in South Florida, had built a name for himself with his piercing voice and frequently obscene humour.

Gottfried, in addition to his stand-up routines, has appeared in films such as "Beverly Hills Cop II," "Problem Child," and its sequel.

 In Disney's 1992 animated picture "Aladdin," Gilbert Gottfried gave the voice of Iago, the wise-cracking parrot.

Gottfried also hosted "USA Up All Night," a show that featured largely low-budget films interspersed with Gottfried's comedic sketches and sarcastic comments.
